Tell us about YOU?I am 26, work full-time in communications for a government department and run The Happy Uterus on the side. I was born in Canberra and don’t really have any plans to leave anytime soon! I have a small, but very close family. I’m really passionate about empowering girls and non binary people and supporting other women.
Tell us about The Happy Uterus and how it came to be?The Happy Uterus started soon after I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I found this massive online community of people with endometriosis and other gynaecological conditions.
Do you have any lessons learnt/things you would do differently for those starting out in the business world? I once had a conversation with someone who was suggesting certain products for certain conditions and said, ‘but of course I am biased because these are my products’. And I thought, well if you aren’t biased when it comes to your own products, are you really selling the right product? I feel like people can feel and see when you are passionate and truly believe in your own products. For me, those are the businesses I am most drawn to and that’s the type of business I want to run!
How can we support The Happy Uterus? Spread the word! Do you know someone who experiences period/pelvic pain who would appreciate a wearable heat pack? Help educate and spread awareness. Us who were born with a uterus, deserve to have the right and appropriate health care. We also deserve to know what is happening inside our bodies! Start a conversation or encourage others to. People are more likely to want to understand an illness if they have a face to it or know someone personally experiencing it.
Any advice for those who are thinking about turning their dreams into a reality?Research, research, research. When you feel ready, start small and you can build it from there. Remember what your ‘why’ is. Write it down, frame it. You are going to need to remind yourself sometimes when things get tough or tiring. Define your values and principles, especially within the Canberra community, that’s what you’ll be known and remembered for!
