A CHAMPAGNE WITH NATASHIA FROM NATIONAL COMMUNITY CARE

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

Mum of 2. Wife. Sister. Daughter. Survivor. Business Owner. Side Hustler. Teacher. Advocate. Negotiator.  At the age of 18, I honestly thought I had drunk too much tequila and woke up one Sunday morning with a god-awful tequila flu… that lasted 8 weeks. Then I was diagnosed with Cancer. Nodular Sclerosing Hodgkins lymphoma. While it is one of the more common and curable cancers, I was graded as stage 4B… there are only 4 stages. It was present in my neck, underarms, lungs, diaphragm, spine, hips, and bone marrow. My prospects did not look good.

This adversity would be one of many, however this adversity set me on a life altering course. A course where I would never stand still. Less than 2 weeks after completing my last round of chemotherapy, I enrolled myself in studies and a Healthcare apprenticeship and started my new path within the Healthcare sector. I knew I was blessed to have received amazing care. This was something I wanted to have an impact on providing others.

Today my bestie and our hubbies own and operate National Community Care providing clinical community care to our amazing Canberra community while raising my 2 beautiful miracle babies.

Beyond this, I also have a few additional side hustles to ensure I have no time for a quality social life but between doing what I love and having a family I love, what more could a girl need!

Tell us about National Community Care and how it came to be?

In 2015 my amazing boss at the time, and fellow CBR Woman/Girl Gang member approached me to start up a new business with her. She saw something in me that I didn’t even see within myself… Fast forward 6 years, a couple of IVF babies, 70+ employees and a pandemic, we are work wives, soul sisters’ and besties with an amazing team that proudly provides quality nursing care to our Canberra community. Specialising in clinical complex care and disrupting the disability and healthcare sectors as we go to make the system better for the people.

We have been fortunate enough to be recognised for our committed efforts by many government bodies including NDIS, ACT Health, the Governor General, ADACAS, the Aged Care Practitioner Office, and the Human Rights Commissioner by simply doing what we love. Advocating for those unheard. Fighting for the forgotten ones, the guys that don’t fit in societies boxes. Why do I do this?

Because every human deserves the right to access quality care regardless of their ability or walk in life.

How can we support National Community Care?

Any advice for those who are thinking about turning their dreams into a reality

Honestly, if it is a heart fire passion, it is a no brainer! Nobody moves forward in life without taking a step into the unknown. It took me a long time to get out of my own way because I let my negative Nancy overshadow me. Then I realised, ‘ain’t nobody got my back like I got my back’. You must be your biggest supporter, celebrate the wins, learn from the losses. It all turns into personal growth no matter what the outcome.
